Hassan Jumaa Awad al Assadi, President of the Iraqi Federation of Oil Unions (IFOU), spoke to over 200 people at Friends Meeting House on Wednesday 18th July.
The IFOU represents 26,000 workers across Iraq. They have struck three times against the privatisation of Iraqi oil and have forced the Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki to negotiate with them. Despite this, the IFOU is still an illegal organisation.
Hassan describes the Union's campaign against the proposed Hydrocarbon Law, which will see much of Iraq's oil wealth fall into the hands of foreign oil companies.

We gave the iraqis sweeties when we libberated them, now they wont give us control of their oil so that we can control opec ,the ingratitude especially since we will look after the money we give them for our er i mean their oil by investing it in sub prime .
What could be better than black oil being looked after by white subprimesscysts who will make sure that every iraqi gets a piecee of their AAA'S

I hate to be cynical, but this adminisrtation forces it. If this is still an illegal org, will we be hearing about an air strike on one of their meetings, that will be described as targeting "militants"?
Bush is trying hard to pressure the iraqis to sign his "law" and cant afford for it to be dragged out long enough for the facts to reach all of the US electorate about its duplicity and deception.

Yes. indeed JungleDjinn. The political parties have now been dragged down and fractured by religious differences and they seem more interested in fighting each other to the death for political supremacy rather than governing their country or the well being of their people. With Iranian influences now involved in and around Basra, Hassan Jumaa and his union have a very difficult path to walk to remain completely non-aligned.
