Hot Water heater timer to save electric. DIY green project.
I hope you enjoy this video, I have some serious power bills here in Kissimmee Florida and the hot water heater is one of the biggest electric / power consumer appliances in a home.. This is an easy DIY power saving power project. My water heater is 220 volt AC and I got the timer from homedepot and its variable from 110 to 220 volt
With my timer set my hot water heater will only run the hours I need it! So im going from 24 / 7 to about 8-9 hours per day. That's over 50% savings on the power for my water heater by installing this simple timer.
If you have any other ideas to save electric please comment or email me.
Stay tuned for my up and coming power savings DIY videos.
All the best,
-Pete

  • I stopped leaving my coffee pot on and now use a Norelco +12 coffee warmer, sort of like what you see in restaurants but smaller and less power. It uses 75 watts to keep a pot of coffee fairly hot versus a coffee pot using 900-1050 watts. We've saved nearly $10 in electric on that alone! For a personal heater under my desk, I use a 250 watt infrared lamp and I plan to put a 500 watt lamp controller on that for those days I need less, aka, saving more!

  • @HostileHST wow.. Great post.

    Thanks for that tip.

  • I installed this timer yesterday & set up for 240 volts. The timer runs quite warm has an electrical smell. Is that just due to the fact that the relays are new?

  • @detbrkdwn Interesting, could be but I would keep an eye on it.

  • U F@#$ING TREE HUGGERS

  • @Ps3notxbox360 LOL first time I been called that. Well more like green huger.. I just dont want to send any more $ to the electric company then I need too.

  • Any estimate on how much this saves per month?

  • First before timer / Use pipe installation / and hot water tank blanket and flush regularly // and depending on state and climate move in the house // these tips can save you 12 to 15 % of cost with less cost and work /// then if need or want install timer // or just shut off breaker when not in use ///
