This song means there's a couple; one in a relationship with someone else the other single and its obvious they have chemistry. They try getting together but emotions get in the way. The one stays with their original and the other walks away and moves on, but there's one caveat; She means so much to him that he will always have a part of him that will never get over her (or vice-versa).

Another song that I used so many times over when I had a break up back in my teen years when this song came out. It is funny how at that age when a break up happens, we see it as the end of the world . Like we will never find love again, real love , and then a little later down the line we do find love again and it washes away the old pain but thank goodness we had these songs back then to help us get through those hard times on the heart. Toto put out alot of great love songs. Awesome 80s band!
