Should you be short selling stocks?

For people with long positions if you have profits on a stock you can either purchase a put or sell in the money calls. If you buy a new positon buy a put to protect your downsize risk. A put gives an individual the right to put the stock to someone else at a specific strike price. If you sell call you will reduce your cost basis if a market continues to decrease. If the market closes below the SP of the call you can keep your premium.
