This is a performance of one of my pieces "Afterdream Ruins" at the Eastman School's Kilbourn Hall on November 9th, 2010. Participating in the performance:

Natalie Ham, flute; Sasha Shatalova, oboe; Richard Li, clarinet; Clay Zeller-Townson, bassoon; Tim Martin, horn; Emily Feeney, percussion; Yi-Yang Chen, piano; John
Kruer, violin I, Deborah Song, violin II, Justin Almazan, viola; Jonathan Lo, cello;
Michael Fuller, double bass; Eugene Astapov, conductor

Program note:

"Afterdream Ruins is a piece that deals with the universal ideas of good and evil, love and hate, sin and repentance. These subjects interlace through every aspect of the work: form, development of harmony and motives, structure, rhythm and of course instrumentation.
Everything is segregated and contrasted, even though the musical material is produced
from few intricately related cells. Afterdream Ruins is written in the genre of Concerto
Grosso and as such the ensemble is divided into groups of instruments, some playing the
role of a soloist while others are paired with another instrument or act as part of a larger
ensemble. At some point the bassoon takes over the ensemble as the solo instrument to
play the role of protagonist, while the rest of the instruments musically attack and retreat.
The piece is divided into two movements which, again, are very contrasting in their
nature. The first movement Animus, which in Latin means soul, expresses the good and
vulnerable sides of it, while the second movement entitled Furia, represents wrath, ire
and evilness. The whole work is very dramatic, highly personal in its artistic content and
is certainly intended to leave an emotional mark on the listener."
