The Minstrel Looks Back 1969-1977 2-DVD set
http://www.tommygunvideo.com

Back in the summer of 1975 Jethro Tull filmed about 1 hour 10 minute's worth of footage in Paris for a possible live video to be released in the future. That never happened and this is all that has surfaced from that show...to date.

This 2-DVD set includes:
- Live in Tampa, Fl, July 31, 1976
- Live at the London Hippodrome, Feb. 10, 1977
- Live at the Tanglewood Music Fair, July 7, 1970
- An appearance on German TV, 1970
- 2 songs performed for Swedish TV, 1969
- Rare mint quality footage of promotional videos for A Witches Promise and Teacher originally broadcast on French TV in 1970

Rare promotional videos for:
- Bouree, 1969
- Life's A Long Song, 1971
- Living in the Past, 1976
- Too Old to Rock n Roll, Too Young to Die, 1976
- The Whistler, 1977
- A full clip of "The Minstrel in the Gallery" from a never released show filmed in Paris in November of 1975!
- Rare 8mm clips of performances from A Passion Play and Thick as a Brick tours. Both of which were never professionally recorded in either video or audio. Amazing, right?
- The original film of "The Hare Who Lost His Spectacles" that was shown during the Passion Play concerts

My favorite era of Jethro Tull includes the CDS:
- This Was, 1968
- Stand Up, 1969
- Benefit, 1970
- Aqualung, 1971
- Thick as a Brick, 1972
- A Passion Play, 1973
- Warchild, 1974
- Minstrel in the Gallery, 1975
- Too Old to Rock n Roll, Too Young to Die, 1976
- Songs From the Wood

If you are new to Jethro Tull and have enjoyed watching all the progressive rock clips that you see on youtube I suggest that you go out and buy these CDs. They are from Jethro Tull's prime and I think you would enjoy them.

  • Hi Ron.

I'm still trying to track down that 1975 Paris show.

However, I think it was filmed in July 1975, not November 1975.

  • well, if you go to the tullpress site, click on 1975, click on december you'll see that Ian himself says they filmed about a month ago, which should make it around november. But the point is i know we both agree on is that it does in fact exist so if anyone doubts that, they don't have to doubt anymore

  • best weird band of all time ! this version of Minstrel really moves - guitar& bass are amped up way better than the studio take, and Jeff was the bomb !

  • I saw this show in Tampa Fl. - typically brilliant J. Tull!!

  • Funny, how Ian's hair, moustache and beard give him almost a dramatically different "look" each successive year. Thanks for vid (as usual) (prob my fave!!)

  • bad audio but emotions always up with this kind of musicians

  • @vonHummer Pretty unreal, eh?! I'm not a bass player, but I don't understand how it's possible to move around that much and still play the notes. Amazing!

  • Truly. And if you know your rock history, you might even call them The John Evan Band featuring Martin Barre. Ian, John, Jeffrey and Barrie cut their musical teeth together. Maybe that's why they clicked so well when they performed. I miss that group more than any!

  • This is my favorite version of the band, along with the versions that included Clive bunker and Glen Cornick. Jeff Hammond was quite a character with his matching striped suits and bass guitars, John Evans always wearing clown suits onstage (looking like a refugee from Ringling Bros. circus), and Barrie Barlow playing onstage in kilts....They were characters, but the music was top-notch!

  • this is musically absolutelly fantastic and hereat very funny

  • Hey, do you think Ian had a special drawer for his cod-pieces?

  • so sorry. this was my first comment and i thought space might be limited and since the guys before me were talking about jeffrey hammond allready, i used jhh. no disrespect meant. i have been singing the praises of jeffrey hammond since '71! i met glenn cornick in '76, and all i could talk about was jeffrey leaving the band. i saw 2 thick, 2 p-play and 1 warchild show with jeffrey hammond . for the record, ian gave him the second hammond cause it sounded better. as did john evan(s) losing the s
