True (regarding good taste below - yours is undoubtedly unequalled;-). NO ONE has ever interpreted Chopin like Horowitz (Hofmann close). Subjectivize if you must (though it is NOT a subjective viewpoint). Having said that, this is a somewhat sloppy performance (listen to the London performances of the early 30s, then render your judgment).

absolutely brilliant performance! i don't hear this piece performed often, but it's refreshing to hear a true genius like Horowitz make it sparkle. i absolutely have to also give kudos to his departure from the bench afterward when he seemingly miraculously stayed on his feet :D

Chopin was the greatest writer, his phrasing was nearly always in perfect harmony with the left hand. Without the composer there is NOTHING. Horowitz is awesome, but nothing without the music he chose to champion. If it were all him, then why couldn't he make it off his own compositions? his own pieces weren't any good that's why.
Most modern "classical music" virtuosos are making their entire livings off dead people... which is in actuality, lame.

@katkula of course Horowitz is great, but i agree that it's funny to focus on the player and not the writer, it's much harder to conceive such works than to just study at conservatory for years just to play what some dead people played 100 years ago.

@raffa5951 pretty sure it's called The Last Romantic

Among Horowitz's interpretations, some I liked, some I didn't. That's my choice - and we all have them. I have always liked the man...had a good sense of humor, which I admired a/b him. He was certainly a character!

chopin was quite able to play his own compositions horowitz was a mere technician
