The US Army's Spc. Craig Brown talks about the weight of warfare and the amount of gear US soldiers must carry into battle in this video shot and produced by Justin Merriman, a staff photographer with the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review in Pittsburgh, PA.
@joey513ja It can be when the MS1/2's don't listen after doing everything you can to inform them, so dont be THAT GUY. if you have minor questions like formation times uniforms ect. go to our teamleader first saves us some headache of getting 10-12 different questions. LDAC will be a breeze, start learning now, pay attention to both the AAR's and your SL you should be able to take over as a temp SL half way through your MS2 year. If you have more questions email my gmail same user name.
@joey513ja well I do not know which school you go to and do not wish to know (for anonymity purposes) but at my school, we have a great supply, and you can go and get new gear if it is broken/insufficient. If your LBE is too tight than loosen it up a little, there are websites out there that can show you how or ask your SL just keep the configuration Battalion SOP, also for the future you can go to USCAV or rangerjoe and get a LBE belt extender so you can adjust for the bulky field jacket.
@joey513ja In regards to you, c/SSG, how do you like ROTC as an MS3? Is it interesting? IS dealing with your squad nerve racking? Good luck to you at LDAC though, sounds like a fun time already haha.
@cam00133 Yeah sorry for the grammar mistakes I just needed to make room for my last words. Thanks for telling me that because I did suspect that they gave us any surplus equiptment available. I actually made a mistake, I do indeed have a LBE and it is very uncomfortable because it is too tight around my waist and the Ruck Sack's waist belt is broken so it sags around my knee pads. Very poor equiptment but I do recognize the fact that they worry about supplying our actual service members first.
@joey513ja a c/SSG here, one thing that ROTC does not tell you is that we are on the lowest level of priority when it comes to gear (to be fair we do not have a need for the best gear out there). As far as YOUR gear LBV refers to a Load bearing vest, similar to Spc Brown's shown. The LBE is load bearing equipment which is the pistol belt with suspenders. If you have the LBE and its being uncomfortable, tighten it up, if you dont know how talk to your SL.
I have a question for you, im in college ROTC MS1 c/PFC and they only issue very poor equiptment 2us, nothing like what you have. we have LBV's and Ruck Sacks that are green too. Does your ACU pistol belt with the pouches you put your night vision equiptment in get in the way when you need to access your lower leg pockets? I have that problem with rotc bc they want us to carry a pen and paper and have it access quickly but we have wet weather equiptment that covers all our pouches, so stupid.
@WASPfreak Name tapes: Last name on right breast, branch of service on left breast. IF you are going for USMC, then that's all the patches erquired/ allowed, if it is army, then you go with your unit patch on your left arm, tabs on left side (Authorized tabs are Special Forces, Ranger, Sapper) and the unit's AIRBORNE if required. Right arm is USA Flag, not subdued (1980's) and deployment unit's patch... Airborne on that patch as well if required.
I'm trying to complete my BDU in woodland pattern (early 1980s). I'm confused about patch placement and what patches I can put on. Any suggestions/tips/recommendations?
