http://www.euronews.net/ Excitement is building in the science world ahead of an anticipated announcement about a possible sighting of the Higgs Boson particle, the essential matter that physicists consider the building block of the universe.

At the CERN research centre in Geneva two independent teams of scientists are expected to claim today that they may have spotted it. It is big news for them, but experts stress it will not change much for the rest of us.

  • Theoretical science that people can't easily commoditize to sell to the highest bidders are the most worthy of pursuit.

Astronomy seems to be the most useless to the "average person;" but it is the field that has contributed the broadest knowledge. Pure math & physics have brought us the deepest knowledge.

Unfortunately, most people, including the "most learned," don't appreciate the fact that it takes many farmers & crop pickers to support a few astronomers, physicists, & mathematicians.

  • I really, really hate how people continue to comment "durr all 7 billion dollarz is wasted now!1!" as if that money magically disappears now. It goes into the pockets of the engineers, physicist, astronomers, etc., which gets spent right back into the system. Geez.

  • i love this kind of news...I get emotional and my heart beats fast in excitement...

  • @obo84

ur saying that the Higgs particle can not just create mass, but make it vanish too? o.O

  • C'est quoi l'histoire ???

  • @Tiranozauras Agree totaly with you. Yet lets do a 50-50 split when they just donate some of their well deserved private fundings they received, from someone ehhm private to me and me myself and I will feed half of the world with it maby even more. But lets not forget, it's only money eh ;-)

  • The Book of Genesis has provided the proper knowledge regarding the origin of the universe and ourselves.

  • it seems that higgs does not exist

so how it can effect the mass ??

  • @sinmantky

people find always some stuff unrelated to their real business :)))

  • @junitono1 remember, the internet was created by these people at CERN. If they weren't funded, you wouldn't be watching youtube right now
