Written in the 1920s by Kurt Weil and Bertolt Brecht. Weil fled Germany for France and eventually the US because there were Nazis there and he was a Jew.
The Doors or Jim Morrison cleaned the song up a little by leaving out the homosexual reference to the "next pretty boy".
