A short video of an O scale model railway exhibition at the Newcastle (New South Wales, Australia) Show in the early 1960's.
An article in the December 2008 Australian Model Railway Mazagine explains the history. This layout was built in 1948/9 and first displayed at the Sydney Royal Easter Show in 1950. In 1951, a new layout was built for the Sydney Show and the original layout moved to Newcastle where it was permanently installed there. The rolling stock was sent to Newcastle from Sydney for the Newcastle show. According to the AMRM article, the building and layout were demolished but no date is mentioned. As far as I can recall, it was still in operation in 1966 when our family moved to Perth.
Visiting the model railway display was a highlight for me whenever we went to the Newcastle Show. My father, Eric Stallard, took this film in the early 1960's using a Standard 8 mm camera. I had my father's films converted to DVD in 2003.
this was a fantastic layout, love to see more footage on it.
