TACC get 15000 AMD Opteron Phenom

Hopefully in the future AMD will release a type of motherboard that will support two processors. That would be very nice.

using 15000 cores in a room does not make sense to me , i believe seti@home project is much more interesting because the project uses the members computers cpu power for calculations whenever the computer is idle, so it can exceed 15,000 users (and cpu's) easily.. I believe the computer is huge but not practical to use, lots of radiation would occur.

Trust me, this is far more powerful than 15000 desktops...

It allows large scale, real time computing - the seti/FAH model does not allow this.

i never had 15000 cpu's nor 15000 desktop PC's to experience that kind of performance.. so i will keep swimming in smaller lakes with my pentium IV 2.4 :-)
