Here is an instructional video on how to apply mesh to your already made hair, fur or fleece boom. Many thanks to all the BOOM BQ's out there. Especially Ingrid Setzer and the Fort Myers volunteers for there innovative meshing technique.

  • Hair booms can be used in many ways. Wrapping booms in donated burlap coffee been bags reduces the minimal shedding that does come off of the booms. It's fine to have a little hair or fur come out of the booms as it's just natural fibers going into the ocean full of birds and mammals with fibers anyway. Conventional booms are made with styrofoam and fiberglass and they break up and release dangerous materials into the water, so hair and fur and fleece and feathers are much safer to work with.

  • Hey Great Idea. Im really stoked to see this is happening. I've done testes myself and have found the booms to be successful at absorbing the oil. However they should be tied together and attached to flotation devices to insure there success. They also seem to work better in calm water and even on shore. Def not to be pulled behind boats as they are still somewhat fragile. Unless maybe in burlap sacks.

  • Awesome! Easy breezy- i'm going to try and organize a boombq in my neighborhood!
