@morgoth16 A fact about US sports, though possibly unknown to you is that African Americans were barred from playing in most professional sports in babe ruth's era. Maybe you've noticed their dominance once they were allowed. bradman is similar, a very limited talent pool in his era and lo and behold, he becomes a great! Are you denying that there has been a marked improvement in EVERY sport that can be measured in speed, times and strength? A simple yes or no will suffice.

@muaythairaja Thats like saying Barry bonds was better than Babe ruth... Even today, Babe ruth is considered the best baseball player of all time. As i said, lets agree to disagree. I dont think Larwood was pedestrian and i think you are being quite disrespectful towards quite a great batsman (in my eyes the greatest). Hence, lets leave it at that. Bradman 'struggled' to an average of 56.57, which is still higher than Sachin's current average.

@morgoth16 You wouldn't worry about injury when someone is bowling a pedestrian pace like the english bowlers of that era. With Gavaskar facing real quality pace on bouncy tracks, thats commendable, but bradman struggled against teh short stuff and rules were immediately changed after bodyline. Look at any measurable sport and you'll see a drastic improvement in the last 50 years, just because cricket is not measurable, doesn't make it different. Bradman would be a club player today.

@muaythairaja When you don't have to be worried about getting yourself getting KO'd by a beamer or collapsing a lung due to the impact of the ball hitting your ribcage, you can surely bat with far more ease than otherwise. I hold my side of the argument. While i would like to thank you for the insight that you have provided (no sarcasm intended), i hold my ground. Get into a situation where you can be seriously hurt and find out how different your mindset is. Lets agree to disagree

@morgoth16 You are wrong again! Here is a link to an actual article in "The Adelaide Advertiser" from that era, where HAMMOND critises the food rations given to pommie bowlers. "trove.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/arti
cle/43775000". Incomplete knowledge is NO knowledge, my friend. And just because someone did not wear protective gear, he's better? Thats laughable logic. Lights out, debate over. -
@muaythairaja You do know that when since they were part of the team, they were well taken care of right? They were in no way on 'war food rations' as you put it. Do remember, quality of wickets have improved so much over the years. Uncovered wickets were unpredictable and hard to play on. I put Sunny Gavaskar, who faced the fearsome Windies foursome with little protection (no body armor like sachin uses now) and G.Vishwanath above Sachin as far as Indian batsmen go.

@TheChipwich The truth can hurt.

@morgoth16 Looks like you're an Indian who'll blindly agree with anything a gora says. You need a history lesson, ever heard of the Great Depression in Europe. Larwood and co were victims of this which forced them to work long hours in foundries to make a basic wage. Marshall had about 20 lbs more of muscle on him than semi starved larwood. So yes, height and physique do have a say in pace bowling.
Don Bradman batting today would be like a knife through butter. Perfect outfields with shorter boundries... perfect covered pitches with the ball coming on nicely all day... A bat that's 3 times the size of the one he used in his era... It'd be a bloodbath. The man was an utter freak.
