Centerpiece Edison Carter 1991.
Here we see and hear the tune Centerpiece played 27 years after the clip from London by Edison and Coleman Hawkins. ( I just posted that as well). In this case it is Harry Sweets Edison again but this time with alto saxophonist Benny Carter and trombonist Al Grey. Marion McPartland piano, Milt Hinton bass and Louie Bellson. They play it somewhat faster, still in the same key of Ab and there is nice sequence of 8 bar exchanges between bass and drums, what is unusual in Centerpiece, which is basically a 12 bar blues , which obviously made Benny Carter smile.
listen to Louie....tastefull playing..

One of the most lyrically mature - NOT old - versions of Centerpiece which I've heard. It's easy to see that this lady & all the gents have respect for the music, and are simply doing it justice while swingin' their backsides off!!!
Thanks for posting a great jazz performance!
