  • This counter-tenor is awesome - not convinced about the artistic merit of this production, though. One thing is for sure, the standard of choral and soloist work is outstanding - Bravo - as is the baroque orchestra. The ensemble sounds fantastic - but it looks somehow, wrong. Call me old fashioned....

  • what seems to be wrong in your opinion? the stage?

  • It is brilliant, and it is today, free your grey matter and let it open up.

I just wish I could see it performed. thanks carosaxone

  • The direction is really original. It is full of suggestions implied but not directly stated by the music. It seems to present a view of the world which hints at the spiritual in our ordinary lives.

I love the gesturing which is like that of a spirit guide. The singing is first rate. And it does not take refuge in the usual ghastly Germanic craziness

  • I love his contralto voice...very good!!! :))

  • Lovely performance, amazing countertenor, slightly offbeat ornaments but they are executed beautifully. I don't quite understand this production. Sometimes it seems to be precisely relevant to the music -- comes close in this number -- and sometimes it seems to have little connection. I guess that my artistic vision does not match that of the makers.

  • Alto, countertenor, who's keeping score at home?

  • Who are 2 persons that dislikes this?

  • Un chef d'oeuvre de Haendel, voix magnifique, mais désastreuse mise en scène, incarnant la laideur du siècle, aucune fantaisie, décors tristes à mourir, bref mieux vaut l'écouter seulement....

  • look this Alto!

    its amazing!

  • Hi, Longeaton. I think of myself as old-fashioned, too, but I'm finding myself just loving this production. The first of the videos I saw was "Surely he has born our griefs" and perhaps that demonstrated the "point" particularly well.

And, of course, the musical interpretation is first rate.

The staging profoundly communicates the reality of the human condition and redemption - what "Messiah" is all about: easy to miss, I should say, when we're caught up in the usual concert versions.

  • Why the staging??????? Thoes it really needs to be staged???? not convinced
