Stickerbrush Symphony (Bramble Blast) from Donkey Kong Country 2
(Sorry, no video or dancing FL chan for this one!)

NES Arrangement by DJ Bouche
Composition/Original Arrangement by David Wise
(Grant Kirkhope also did the GB arrangement for Donkey Kong Land 2)

Now you're probably wondering, there is already an 8-bit version... so why? Well I like Grant Kirkhope's GB version, but I wanted to go further and try to capture the cut-off filter effects and such somehow.

I'm uploading this for now until I finish one of the next Mario Galaxy chiptunes (working on 3 at the moment!)

Made using MCK - Uses 2A03 (including DPCM) and the expansion VRC6.
The VRC6 has two PSG channels which have 8 duty cycles, which proved very useful for this song in order to simulate the sampled cutoff filter effects, without going to extremes such as using N106.

This was one of my submissions for Famicompo Mini Vol 3 in 2006.

  • Shame this cover didn't fare better in the Famicompo judging. The only other entry in the same league is #11, which is a remix of the addictively catchy Yoshimune Pachinko tune, though the comparison isn't totally fair. With 24 channels, 250K in samples, and 4 expansion chips for a wide spectrum of FM, wavetable, and PSG, it might as well be a FastTracker module. I also enjoyed your Hare Hare Yukai track from the same set.

  • @Whelkman I fell in love with 11 haha, but yeah.. I don't get the chip mixing which is impossible hardware-wise... I actually would have rated this higher than my HHY which probably beat it due to popularity of Haruhi at the time, and probably lack of interest in DK from the Japanese? that was the series I submitted the day of sagittarius 3 joke that plummeted at last lol.

I prefer pure 2A03 tracks, but wanted to use VRC6 to simulate filters, which are like a DKC/Dave Wise signature!

  • @Whelkman although ironically, I did submit some VRC7+2a03 covers for sonic/SNES mario to the latest compo D:

  • The MP3 download link won't work.

  • @HumanDaikon should work now, sorry about that :(

  • Betcha this can be heard in the GBC version of DKC2.

  • A GBC of DKC2 would have been nice.. as a follow up of the awesome GBC port of DKC.

  • theres a difference between sounding like 8-bit , and being actually made on a real piece of 8-bit hardware, with all its limitations like how many simultaneous sounds of a certain type can be played at the same time and all that stuff....

  • this is my fave song in DKC2 and its awsome in 8 bit
