Silbaar..you "know" of a lot of yesterday's tenors but never heard them live. I did along with recent tenors. The period of time after WWII through the mid 60s was considered the "golden age of voice" at the Met. Every vocal part was deep with talent especially tenors.
Silbaar...no offense but Domingo is not Corelli and his upper register is far inferior to that of Franco's as well. You obviously never heard Corelli live..I did and he's unmatched.
Besides, I think that Pavarotti, even though his fortune is due to mass marketing and so on, is actually the one I prefere. And Tha best "Calaf" I've ever heard, is not the '61 Corelli one (absolutely GREAT too) but a Domingo, sang in 1992 maybe. Ciao e viva la musica!
I know very well the sublime Franco Corelli! Come on, is very famous! My horizons are yet expanded and in expansion... I love Del Monaco, and I know a lot of important tenors (I know also well that Bocelli is not in this category)... Thank you anyway for your advise.
Music is an art. One person will love a song or an artist and the next person might hate it/them. I've heard Nessum Dorma sung by many singers, and bottom line, each was just as delightful in its own way. It isn't about Pavarotti vs. Bocelli or Lanza vs. Domingo. None are better or worse than any others, only those who are more appealing to the individual listener. It must be left at that. This debate will never be won. So just relax and enjoy whichever song/artist appeals to you.
globehead...well said...my sentiments completely. People need to open go on u-tube and listen to the difference. They all seem stuck on the pop singer Bocelli or the same old same old regarding Pavarotti. Very limited scope.
