Just installed a Bitmo kit in the amp and wanted to see if a 12AY7 would make a difference.

  • I have a the matching 1 X10 blackheart cab, thought I would try something different and put a weber in there, just in case anyone wants to try, it is not a perfect fit so play on using a chissel to get a fraction of an inch from the bottom frame, the whole front comes off though so it is easy. Very well built little cabinets.

The weber is alot brighter than the stock, I was thinking of getting a 1 X12 as well, any suggestions on a good speaker to add some low end?

  • I don't think it's worth buying a 12" speaker/cabinet to find some more bottom. And I don't know what would work for you. I use a 12" Cannabis Rex that I'm happy with but I also have the bitmo kit that added the tone control.

  • I just purchased a EH 12AY7 for my killer ant. I currently have two JJ ECC83 S high gain tubes. Could you tell me which slot I should put the new EH for the best results?

  • I liked it in V1 (preamp) I suppose you could also try it in the power stage also. While you have it apart might as well experiment I like the stock tube in V2

  • Which of the tubes is V1 & V2? Looking from the back, is V2 the tube behind the transformer/speaker sockets?

This tube seems to glow more brightly than the other.

  • It's printed on the chassis but if your looking from the back it is the tube on the left.

  • the 12ay7 sounds like a winner

  • 12AY7 sounds very clean and warm, thats my favorite ! I will try this also in my amp!

  • 12ax7 is five star*****

  • great demo, cut very well with no gaps in sound. Simple and to the point

  • another one to try is 6BZ7. the only diferences from it and 12AY7 is a lower amplification factor (12AY7, u = 40. 6BZ7, u = 38), higher power dissipation on plate (12AY7 = 1.5w each triode. 6BZ7 = 2w each triode), and that it only haves a one 6v / 400mA filament.

pin 9 is an internal shield, that you can ground if you hear any hums.

i have built a little amp here today to test it out, and i got some nice tones.

the best part: this tube costs like 5 bucks. at least its how much i paid for mine.

  • wow, chaning mines to 12ay7

  • the 12AY7 has beautiful cleans, but I also kinda like the breakup you get from 12AX7s.

  • I like 12AY7 Tung Sol in V2. Amazing clean tone and higher overall volume. I can always get dirty by pedal. Have 12" inch blackheart cabinet -> switched speaker to Celestion Blue, but stock speaker is not bad - eminence
