Sean Bell Protest 1

The day after I got back from a family wedding in Houston, I was just beginning a Brooklyn tour when we encountered some protesters as we came off the Manhattan Bridge in Brooklyn.

For those who don't know, Sean Bell was a person of color who had a run-in with police and ended up getting shot a total of 51 times. The guy, of course, did not live to tell his tale. To further complicate matters, the police failed to find a gun on the guy when they finally checked him.

So a trial ensued and, the police were somehow declared "innocent". So a carefully coordinated series of protests were arranged for 5 May 2008 throughout the city. Most if not all of the protests were "illegal" and aimed at disrupting the flow of traffic around the city. As a result, the police ended up arresting several of the protesters.

Luckily for everyone involved, though, the protests were for the most part peaceful protests, making things go a lot smoother for all parties involved. Anyway, this here is the first of four videos I took that day. Check it out!
