  • Is it just me, or does anyone else long for the days when the boards weren't end-to-end with advertising?

  • I was at this game. It was the first hockey game I had ever seen, I've been hooked every since.

  • @SuhnFreebuildxOP ur stupid, go leafs go

  • @podx990 I miss a lot about those days...

  • OLDTIME HOCKEY? But as usual, the LEAFS FELL, as they have since the 1960's. They won the game, but lost the fights. And that was well before we had the LET'S GO REDWINGS chant. And for the record, Joey Kocuer and Bob Probert trained with the Kronk Gym here in Detroit, and was told, they could've been very good pro fighters.

    GO WINGS!

  • This might have been the game where Brophy gave Demers the choke gesture. Came back to bite Brophy in the playoffs. We were in the next to last row at JLA for Game 7, singing "Brooooo-phy" LOL

  • @Longlakedreaming Fair enough, I was only referring to the playoff format changes, not everything that went on during the Ziegler regime.

  • @skifusya I tempted to say that anything John Ziegler or Alan Eagleson had their hands on during the 70's and 80's should be opened for debate as to it's merits. Gil Stein should have been given more then one year as NHL President before the basketball dude took over. Instead of headmaning the NHL down the ice towards better prosperity, the dude tried a bounce pass.

  • @landrykkb Yes, Demers always got a lot of mileage in particular out of defensemen (Lee Norwood, Ric Nattress, etc.) and 3rd line type forwards who were castoffs from other teams (Dave Barr, John Chabot, etc.). Of course, having an ascendant Steve Yzerman didn't hurt his teams in Detroit, either....

  • @landrykkb Absolutely not. The regional realignment in 1981 energized and helped create a lot of new rivalries which benefitted the NHL and its fans in the 1980s. Some of the series during the first two rounds of that time period were more exciting than the finals. Too bad the NHL decided to "basketballize" (wonder why) in 1993-94.
