The Oksky State Biosphere Reserve is one of the biggest in Europe. It's not only a wildlife paradise but also a well-known scientific centre. It has carried out special programmes for endangered species for many years. The pride of the reserve is the Rare Cranes Nursery, where they are bred for scientific purposes and to boost the population. One of the main tasks of staff is to replenish the diminishing Siberian crane population. There is also a Bison Nursery at the reserve, where most of the young are released into the wild.
Lovely report on a very beautiful place! The muskrats are quite interesting. While growing up in rural Saskatchewan (Canada) I remember watching muskrats swimming around in ponds ... "our" Canadian muskrats are quite different from these Russian ones.
