This is where Servant Leadership comes in. Servant Leadership focuses on collaboration and validation of all people involved. The leader has to be compassionate and be able to feel and think as the people being led would. It puts a high value on truthfulness and admitting mistakes which means giving up control. Accountability for each and every person involved is essential because accountability does away with blame and opens the WAY for growth of each individual. With loss of control to the group comes a new sense of joy and cheerfulness. It means that the individual and the group do not have to get it right every time, can freely admit the lack of success and start over as a group or at least with the support of the group. Just think how this makes each individual and the community as a whole feel validated and worthy. This is more important than productivity, because true productivity will come from the whole-hearted support and participation of the group.

Servant Leadership allows power to equal participation and not domination. This means power with rather than power over. Until a leader is comfortable with servant leadership the leader may feel out on a limb. However, the leader being at risk is acceptable and should be worn with humility and clarity.

Servant Leadership requires honesty, truthfulness, participation, and shared power. This is why servant leadership systems succeed when other systems fail.
