This version is perfectly credible. I am always mystified when I read about how a cover version of a song is allegedly a "mess", and then I go and listen to the original and it isn't all that different. I actually like the Marvelettes version better, but Blondie is not trying to outdo the original, just putting their own spin on the song and paying tribute by covering it. Snobbish comments that a song is allegedly so special that it can't be covered are meaningless.
