And I do have picky eaters, when my children reach the age of about seven they always want all the junk food lunches that they see their friends eat. I buy white bread and fruit snacks and boxed juices just to keep the peace and also let them purchase hot lunch once in a while.
But our at home food is almost all from scratch. I just made a batch of Kamut dough that I plan to make into cinnamon rolls tonight. I figure every bite of whole grains from Mom is healthier and cheaper.
I think if I truly hated myself I would try to bake all of our bread all the time. (Too many dishes to wash!) We purchase a couple of loaves a week for toast and school lunches. And then I am constantly making bread machine bread, muffins, cookies, waffles, cinnamon rolls, and other things with fresh ground grains like hot cereal and salads.
Once in a great while I will bake up several loaves of bread using the mixer and my bread pans.
About 6 months ago, I switched to home-baked bread in an effort to avoid high-fructose corn syrup and save money. I noticed that you have a few loaves of purchased bread on your counter, and was curious as to your motivation behind baking your own. Do you avoid bread that contains certain ingredients, or are there picky eaters in your home who prefer the packaged kind? Is it simply a case of homemade being better, but not always practical? I only have to bake for two. ^_^
