@leesherman100 the 1984 and 85 DX blocks are still running ! thats when GM figured it out the head gaskets need to be stronger and head bolts etc. the block is nickel in the 84 and 85 the crank is a olds forged 425 crank bullet proof so they can take the 22:1 compression and then when bugs were worked out the EPA came in and made GM stop production because of polution facts !

I worked on these for years! Due to an internal problem in the inj. pump it will cause big smoke. Lousy idle, poor power also. Send the pump out for O-haul. These had to be the worst engines GM ever came up with! Everything blew sky high!! Ever see one on the road lately?? Would anyone ever collect on of these?? Hell no!! Blown head gskts, broken cranks, oil leaks galore. Unreal pig of pigs!! There funny now, but wer'nt in the 70s and 80s. Your lucky it runs!!

@newengland72 it was burning lots of oil due to oversize cylinders, the rings wont fit right anymore.
