Great Australian country song I believe it was by the Flying Emus and then re recorded by Anne Kirkpatrick I really like the sound of Stu's fiddle on this one, there is no bug so it is just acoustic plus a little bit of reinforcement through his vocal mic. The Beggars are Stuart Day Quinton Dunne and Renee Donaghey. They perform on acoustic instruments and are based in Adelaide, South Australia.

AUCTIONEER: Lyrics

Auctioneer, auctioneer, bring that hammer down
Take my family, smash it apart
Well it's just a few machines and a little piece of land
Bring that hammer down on my heart

Well his family's been here seventy years or more
His grand-dad cleared the land with just an old bush saw
Heard him crying late last night when he thought I wasn't 'round
I'm sorry grand-dad, I let you down

Auctioneer, auctioneer, bring that hammer down
Take my family, smash it apart
Well it's just a few machines and a little piece of land
Bring that hammer down on my heart

Well there's acres and acres of wheat in the sun
My heart's aching and aching for the work that should be done
But the bank's stopped the cheque and no-one wants the crop
And it's breaking my heart to watch it rot

Auctioneer, auctioneer, bring that hammer down
Take my family, smash it apart
Well it's just a few machines and a little piece of land
Bring that hammer down on my heart

After harvest rain and flood, years and years of drought
Now the interest rates are gonna finally wipe us out
They say it's not our fault it's just the world economy
But he blames himself 'cause we're on our knees

Auctioneer, auctioneer, bring that hammer down
Take my family, smash it apart
Well it's just a few machines and a little piece of land
Bring that hammer down on my heart
