Final War - LTTE political capital of Kilinochchi under siege - Nov 21

The Army offensive divisions in the Wanni theatre of operations are now advancing towards Kilinochchi from three frontiers. Sources emanating from the area reported that heavy fighting was raging in the battlefront.

According to defence sources, pitched battles are afoot in the North and South of Adampan and Therumurikandi areas. Army Task Force I launched a pre-dawn offensive targetting LTTE defence in North of Adampan. Infantry men of the 17th Gemunu Watch, the 12th Gajaba Regiment and the 8th Sinha Regiment, have been able to capture LTTE strongholds on the earth bund at three locations. Intercepted radio transmissions confirmed that the terrorists had suffered heavy damages.
Meanwhile, the 57th Division troops are engaging the terrorists in the vicinity of the LTTE held earth bund in the Adampan area. According to the sources, LTTE defences in the area are fast falling apart. Troops of the 8th and 10th Sri Lanka Light Infantry are now advancing towards the A-9 road. Latest reports revealed that the troops are fighting in close proximity to the LTTE held earth bund built across the A-9 highway.
