  • I love that Gilels includes the bear dance from the original score. This is a fantastic and imaginative performance with orchestral sonorities!

  • Phenomenal!

  • @thisismymoniker where can you fint the score to the bear dance? it's truly amazing, gilels version is the best!

  • Love the bear dance, i'm so going to add that in my own performance and exchange it for some of the stuff around 6:20 which i never really liked (only Weissenberg's performance has made it sound ok to my ear, just don't like it!). Funny that Gilel's skips 4 pages from the end of the piece, although he sounded like he was getting tired during the E octaves at the end as there was a phenomenal amount of mishittings there, perhaps he just decided to call it a day.

It really is a diabolical piece!

  • One of the greatest performances, of ANY piece, of all time!

  • @iicbm I think best version is that by Maurizio Pollini :)

  • best version ever

  • One must really listen to Pollini's rendition of the piece. He recorded it for DGrammophone, but I'm sure there's a youtube version. It's fascinating to accompany the audition of his playing with the score and discover the incredible details and writing techniques of Stravinsky. And also to see incredible things like a 4-stave piano writing near the end, and incredible phrasings, supported by arm-twisting and powerful harmonies. His sense of understanding and to shape this work were outstanding!

  • Agreed. Weissenberg's is my favorite. Gilels' is also very good, they are both great pianists. But this is certainly one of the greatest recordings of this there.

  • Excelente versión. Gilels extrae grandes sonoridades orquestales del piano. Por momentos parecen 2 pianistas. El ritmo, los matices y el ataque de las notas, son adecuados para esta música.
