I lost alot of respect for him in the way he treated his wife and spreading herpes like he did. And he has a man of the year award lol. He was able to hide all the BS for years

I lost small respect for him on how he treated his wife, but sad to see him go out that way.

There are a lot of reasons to love Walter Payton. For me, I remember the press conference when he announced his liver disease. He was asked the vanilla question, are you scared? You'd expect the jock or the wannabe-hero tough response, something stoic. His response: You're damn right I'm scared.
He is one of my heroes because he allowed you to see him as human, and he was honest and humble in that realization.

I remember watching that press conference live as it happened.I wanted to cry. When he said God be with those that are going to talk negatively I did.

My favorite NFL RB of all time- no one worked harder in the off season.

Walter Payton is in heaven, I know it.

It's a shame that people like Mickey Mantle and David Crosby used their celebrity to get new livers after ruining their own livers with alcohol and other abuse. Walter refused to use his celebrity to get in the "front of the line." In a day of age when the word hero is thrown around so freely, Walter was truly a hero, a role model... sweetness

He was the best! Even though he was black!
Walter Payton should be on a US postage stamp

After Walter retired, I wondered, Why does anybody run like him. At my young age, I didn't realize how great he was.
I want to believe that is in heaven with Christ. He seemed like a sincere humble man. It touches my heart like few others.
He is more than what he could do on the field.
