Nepalese police arrested dozens of Tibetans on (March 10, 2010) in the capital Kathmandu. More than 30 protesters were thrown in jail for almost 2 months where they begin another demonstration near the Chinese Embassy, when the police swooped in and made the arrests. Kicking and screaming, the protesters resisted arrest as police yanked them onto a waiting police van. Tibetan refugees in Nepal have been staging peaceful demonstrations almost on a regular basis, protesting against the crackdown of Tibetans in Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. The protesters staged their demonstrations, mainly in front of the Chinese Embassy and the UN House, for their support to pressurise for the protection of Human Rights in Tibet.
More than 20,000 Tibetans have been living in Nepal, after fleeing their homeland post the failed uprising in 1959. Nepal considers Tibet part of China and has briefly detained thousands of the exiled Tibetans, protesting against Beijing since the deadly crackdown on protests in the region mid-March.
