@kittensandtheglitz These animals are not being slaughtered and are enjoying the grass of the field. What more do you want? In reality you are the monster for wanting them to be out in the wild where not only bears, wolves, and coyotes will hunt them, but where they will have to endure the harsh winter. These cows are going to live a much happier and longer life on the dairy farms. In exchange for their milk we developed a co-evolutionary connection to provide them with shelter.

@kittensandtheglitz Cows are not human. They have no concept of self, no ambition or aspirations for their off spring, but if they did they may choose to be farmed rather than endure the realities of nature, just as so many humans, past and present have submitted to slavery in exchange for food, shelter and protection. Compare the cow with it's african cousin the antelope, constantly in fear, hungry and thirsty has watched it's calf and mates torn to pieces just as it will be

@kittensandtheglitz Applauded? For what? The condescendending self- righteous holier than thou narrow mindedness you mean...!!!!!

@mallarchy And for the record, not that it makes ANY difference to the invalidity of your argument, I never take the bus (got bike), my electricity is from wind power, and my shoes and clothes are second hand or hand-me-downs. So don't make assumptions about people you haven't met. I am the real deal, baby! I do believe you about not all animal farming being bad. But since most of it is, I'm not taking chances. And yes there is a scale but the lesser evil is still evil.

@mallarchy This ALWAYS happens when talking to an anti-vegan. The "oh but you're not perfect, look, you do this and that!" argument. No, I'm not perfect. Neither are you. And that's perfectly ok! But we can do our best. Do you think because my basement is flooded, I should not try to put out the fire on the roof? Because if my house isn't perfect to begin with, why even bother to try to make it better? Shouldn't I be applauded for trying?

@mallarchy @mallarchy But the cows don't have a say in the matter. It's not like they turned up at the farm looking for employment. I don't think any mother would happily consider having your children taken from you a good job option. There is not much choice for cows since they have been bred to be so dependent on humans. But it still could be done more humanely... In farms of the old days, the calf wasn't taken away from it's mother, and there was still enough milk to go around.

@kittensandtheglitz The point is you can't wag the finger over the environmental impact of a balanced diet, whilst needlessly consuming and negatively impacting the environment with that which is available to you in the western world ie. watching films on youtube! Though I may grudgingly agree with regards to intensive pig and poultry and other similar systems, which I despise just as much as you, but that dosen't make all animal farming bad, there's a sliding scale.

@kittensandtheglitz Where do you get your protein from? Soy, bean curd? What's wrong with a bit of impact anyway for something as fundamental for existence as food? Grass fed beef and particularly lamb can have a hugely benificial affect on the environment in many ways, the grazing can improve bird habitits for example, what about the impact of your plastic shoe, and the bus you go to work on, the electricity and the computer etc. you use, not to mention your holiday flights?

@kittensandtheglitz Sorry but that is just life. Anybody who has a job is having their body (in the form of manual labour or skills) or resources (intellect, knowledge) used for profit by their "slave master" as you would say otherwise known as their employer. In exchange they are fed, given medical care and shelter etc. (via their salary and taxes) just as the cows are. Good livestock farming is a bargain between man and beast, like an employment contract.
Only soy milk in my cuppa...
