Meet my lovely wife Sarah! She and I are starting a new ongoing series called Ask the Treksperts, where we'll be talking about various Star Trek related topics. Please leave us any ideas or questions you might have that you'd like us to discuss about anything in the five series and 11 film canon of Star Trek. Our first topic is races that started off scary but were turned into, as Sarah puts it, wusses, by Voyager. Enjoy!

And to our viewers who aren't Star Trek fans, don't worry-- Vince and I have plenty more Geeks Not Nerds, Superhero Rewind, trivia, and other stuff coming soon!

  • where is the star trek club? if it was in the chicago area that would rock.

  • LOL No, I'm sorry, it's in the Kansas City area.

  • For a second there I was wondering why Vince had gotten so attractive :-)

I cannot think of many Star Trek villains of the top of my head that turned into wusses. I thought the Ferengi were sinister when they first appeared, but by the end of DS9 they came across as funny.

Do you guys play any MMOs? I hear a Star Trek MMO is about to be released.

  • The Ferengi were supposed to be big villains for TNG, but if you watch The Last Outpost, they came off as silly from the beginning, so that's why they later were used as comic relief.

We've never done MMOs before and I'd like to try out the new Trek game, but I'm not sure about it. Even if it's good, I don't think I'd want to pay the monthly fees.

  • Why doesn't Picard have a French accent?

  • @JerkyChid LOL That's like asking how many licks it takes to get to the center of the Tootsie Pop. The world may never know.

  • I think the Q episode where they deal with the question of 'the right to die' was a good one. But I'm not fond of the other Voyager Q episodes.

Q always seemed to work better in TNG.

  • I writing a star trek novel in attempts to get it published.I was wondering about the way deep space nine was kinda of left in the air with sisko joining the prophets,et al.is there something in the works to continue and complete the storyline?

  • TAS actually belongs to the Canon of Star Trek!!!!!!

  • nice leonard nemoy mug. you should do a trek villians vid. and wether or not you think Trek is better with actual villians or if it functions better pitting the crew of the enterprise against forces of nature ala " the probe "

  • The novels made the Borg even more frightening then they ever were. No longer were they bent on conquest of the Federation as much as its total destruction. The novel trilogy "Destiny" is one of THE most profound moments in the history of the franchise in which we see not only the origin of the Borg, but their demise. People have claimed that Trek was dead (thus the reboot). For serious fans like myself, Trek has been alive and thriving in the novels all this time.

  • I like what you guys are doing very much. I had thought about doing something similar a few years back. However, being an expert involves knowing all things pertaining to the Star Trek universe. That includes non canon elements such as TAS and the novels. As for Voyager making the Borg wusses; it was not so much that they became wusses as much as they became boring. And Voyager did not destroy the entire collective in "Endgame". That brings me to to talk about the novels.......

  • What do you want the next tv show should be.

  • that was a good vince imitation. lol.

  • Is it really necessary to watch every season from the origonal to enterprise in order to get the premise? Do I have to watch every television series in order or is it okay to jump around? Also are there any series that I should just avoid all together?

I'm sort of new to star trek (I only saw a few Next Gen. episodes and even less of the origonal) and I wasnt ever really sure where to jump in.

  • I knew nothing about Star Trek until I saw the Star Trek movie last year, and I really liked it. Are there any TNG movies that you two would recommend?
