Most people think that the majority of the USA is of English heritage....NOT TRUE!! The largest ethnic group was the Germans and then The Celts especially in the South. alot of these old songs were telling history for a people who had their , language , religion and education outlawed .. their population halved by starvation and half of what was left had to leave or die .. @benkit49 we could not of won the war without america no, or invaded europe either , but i dont think america could of by themselves either , or ussr by itself, it took all 3 plus the commonwealth , and other countries to defeat them, the axis did have a good 6 years head start rearming , they had there chance in 1940 but blew it , and adolf ,his decisions time and again lost them the war ,

@benkit49 he did say that ,but britain had already saved itself from germany ,they could not be invaded , germany did not have the capability to come across the channel, the channel saved britain ,just like it did against spain, and napoleon, we defeated the luftwaffe ,and defeated the U boats , without american supplies we could not of defended ourselves no, but it was the largest merchant fleet in the world ,our ships that brought it over

The United States of America declared war on Japan; they never declared war on Germany. It was Germany who declared war on the USA. No, the USA was not prepared to fight a war at this time but every man, woman and child in America at the time helped to get the war machine moving and this is what saved England and France from Hitler.

@TheMightOfTheEnglish It was not Roosevelt and the greedy politicians of Washington DC that did not want to enter WW2. It was the majority of the American people who were totally against it. In secret meetings Churchill constantly pleaded with Roosevelt to provide manpower and not just materials. But, there had to be an "incident" to incite the American people. That "incident" came in the form of the Japanese attacking Pearl Harbor. How convenient.

@benkit49 all that while you sat on the fence , you had a small army in 1940, most of your navy in the pacific, youd be isolated , have to fight on both fronts , the germans would of got the atomic bomb before you , so tell me einstien , how america could of won, .. no radar ,no german code , surrounded , best you could do would be sue for peace , theres no way you could of invaded europe from america , so you see , this little island holding out saved your asses really lol , and thats fact

@benkit49 all those german forces in the west ,norway and north africa ,to attack the soviets , no bombing of nazi germany , all the resources used to defeat the soviets , america supplied the soviets 95% of the red armys trucks , and vital supplies through iran/persia, that wouldnt of happend, no british in greece, thegermans would of attacked russia in the early summer , reaching moscow before the winter had started , they delayed it invading greece and attacking us in crete

@benkit49 if we had fallen , germany would of occupied all of europe ,north africa , all our colonys , south africa , if they had taken our navy to , and takenthe french navy , the combined german,british,french,italian navies would of dominated the atlantic , the germans would of taken the falklands ,jamaica, belize ,cutting off the panama canal, took the middleeastern oil fields, cut off the supply line to russia through iran, linked up with the japanese in india

@benkit49 so although we couldnt defeat the germans by invading europe , we couldnt be defeated either , it WAS mainlt the royal navy and canadian navy that won the battle of the atlantic, yes you played a part , thats about it , im pro american but yanks like you make me sick claiming you won the war all by yourselves ,you didnt ,equipment wise and hardware you played a massive part , deathswise you lost a similar amount to us compared to 20 million soviets
