A cowboy who had his trailer repossessed and couldn't pay his taxes lassoed one of the biggest lottery jackpots in history - a $232.1 million Powerball prize.

South Dakota rancher Neal Wanless came forward Friday, a month after he bought the lucky ticket in - get this - a town called Winner.

"I want to thank the Lord for giving me this opportunity and blessing me with this great fortune," said the 23-year-old.

"I will not squander it."

Wearing a black hat and a grin as wide as the plains, Wanless looked like he'd just stepped out of central casting for a Western.

He lives on his family's 230-acre ranch near Mission, S.D., raising cattle and sheep but, apparently, not much money.

"They've been real short on finances for a long time," said Dave Assman, who owns land next to the Wanless ranch.
"They are from real meager means, I guess you'd say."

The family has been making ends meet selling scrap metal and was hard hit by the plunging price of iron in the nation's seventh-poorest county.

A mobile home on the ranch was repossessed last year and the family owes $3,552 in property taxes, county records show.

Yet when Wanless realized he'd won the ninth-biggest jackpot in Powerball history, he didn't go on a spending spree.

He prepared hay for baling, did odd jobs on the ranch and confided in his horse, Eleanor, that he'd like to buy a little more land.

"It'd be nice if we go for a longer ride than usual on a bigger ranch of our own," he told the horse.

Wanless - who will take home a lump sum of $88.5 million after taxes are deducted - also plans to give some of the windfall to charity.

"My family has been helped by the community, and I intend to repay that help many times over," he said.
Wanless bought the ticket - picking the numbers of relatives' birthdays - during a trip to Winner to buy livestock feed.

Sharon Ulmer, manager of the Ampride convenience store, was thrilled to hear which of her customers won.

"From what I understand they don't have a lot, so the money definitely went to a good place," Ulmer said. "I know
it went to a good home. They can use it."

Nice win Neil! Always like to see something good happen to a Cowboy! I am sure you heard it before, but as you said, dont squander it! Take care of yourself and your family, Money changes people, and most of the time it is for the worst, dont let this happen to you. If that ranch is not paid off, pay it off. Here is a good advise: When you do win a large sum of money, get a TRUST FUND ACCOUNT under a name, and make yourself to be the executor and trustee of that fund. That way it's not listed to the whole darn world who you are. :) BidsWOW.com

I bet that guy that won $232 million already got a chick. I noticed that most of time many women like rich men like this guy for money. When women want to spend rich men's money, they would want to marry him or try to have a baby with him or love him first then spend his money. I am not a millionaire, I don't have a girlfriend and if I win the lottery I bet chicks will pretend they like me but really they like me for my money. So is it worth having a lover if you are rich? I don't think so.
