Hi guys, in this video I explain the step by step preparation and the techniques I used to repair the structural stress cracks where the concrete foundation meets the wood frame home. There are allot of ways to repair this wall including removing all the stucco and starting from scratch, which I explained to the owners. However, I was at this residence and happen to have this material on hand, so I offered to repair this crack at no cost using the method I describe here. Which would you prefer if you were the home owner (tear the whole wall apart and start from scratch at a cost) or the free fix? Things that make you go hummmm.

  • Putting 2 inch tape over those cracks is useless ,thats why that small crack was so big . Exterior stucco is non structural so spreading a tight coat over the fibermesh does nothing, except cause the crack to buckle, and now it becomes 2 inchs wide instead of 1/8.That tape will not stop that wall from moving. Good :Luck

  • @sbrawner10 I disagree with you, I gave the owners many options of choice for this repair. I informed them the crack was where the wood structure met the concrete structure. I also informed them they can remove the entire stucco and start from scratch or I can repair it with the mesh tape for free as I was already there installing vents. They choose the free fix. They are happy. Thanks for your tip and have a groovy day.

  • @StuccoPlastering( 35 years of experience is the reason for my response.I agree with you on why it cracked, however your solution is wrong, the tape has no value except to make things worse when the crack comes back. When the wall moves again the crack will cause the tape to buckle , making the problem more visible. Kirk you should never feel to old to learn .Good Luck

  • @sbrawner10 Hey guy, the home owner realized this fix is not going to stop a 50 ton home from cracking. No amount of fiber mesh will. The proper way would have been to remove the stucco, place and expansion joint in this area repair the base coat allow this to cure for two weeks then re color coat the entire wall, which I would have had to charge for. But even this method can't guarantee no cracks. I do what folks can afford and the free fix appealed to him.

  • Good job man, but what if it's textured stucco?

  • @bluecountry100 hey country man, we can apply a texture with this material. There are about ten ways to correct this type of cracking. The way I did it takes a long time but I was at this project for awhile. If you want a quicker way e-mail me at kirkgiordano@gmail.com.

Thanks and have a groovy day!
