Fact is that native English speakers are generally permitted to coin new words so long as they use standard morphological patterns and adhere to strict lexical rules. This is even more acceptable if the creator is in a literary profession and the novel word serves a definite purpose. An editorialist is certainly a member of this category.
In any case, "unsecure" suggests lack of security through negligence, while "insecure" simply states a condition.
so they are cutting out the middle man now hey! you don't need to go through the purchasing stages of the black market, you just walk in and chose your pleasure, brings new meaning to 'free market trading'...
also, unsecure is the slightly wrong grammatical equivalent to un-secure, either way everyone knows its meaning and therefore squabbles over such innate discrepancies, or 'bates', are far from needed. the only 'trolls' are those who wish to stir calm waters friend...

the words are actually different, unsecure seems to imply a lack of security, where as insecure seems to imply a lack of confidence or self esteem.
