A typical late autumn misty, murky day at the GC for their mini Steam Gala, starring guest LNER K4 61994 The Great Marquess, returning SR King Arthur Class 30777 Sir Lamiel and LMS 3F 47406. At times you could barely see the locomotives and even the trains for leaking exhaust and it was so dull that my camcorder struggled to retain focus on panning shots. Many thanks to the drivers, who ensured that their charges were worked hard and created some notable smoke effects, the sound levels making up for the lack of visibility. Typically, of course, every hi-viz jacket was fully visible for miles around!
47406 at Charnwood Water, Kinchley Lane and Rabbit Bridge; 61994 The Great Marquess at Woodthorpe, Kinchley Lane and Loughborough; 30777 Sir Lamiel at Loughborough, Quorn and Swithland.

  • Lovely video again. Where's the webpage gone?

  • @20Norton

Thanks. I am having some technical problems with the provider, which should be resolved on Monday.

  • Wonderful conditions for filming steam Mike, and as always a fantastic video...Bob

  • @robmasterman

Thanks Bob. Probably too much steam, which obscured much of the engines / trains. Better than filming on a warm summer's day though, and it's good to get the variety.

  • A lovely video Mike, I think the gloomy conditions add to the atmosphere a great deal and makes for some good exhaust effects. The shot of 30777 departing Loughborough shows just how gloomy it was.

  • @acw71000

Thanks Austin. Yes there was a mist all day and it got dark very early. The Lamiel shot was the 3:30 and it was already too dark for decent still shots.

  • I enjoyed this day, i was it Quorn and i really felt like i was train spotting in the 1960's and when the freight came through i pretended it was going to somewhere in the country rather than just Rothley, it was a good day despite the weather

  • @grantham8

Thanks. Yes, I remember talking to you. Hope you were successful with your shots!

  • @KWVRMAD

    Thanks. Too much steam probably.

  • @dsj672

Thanks. Yes, there weren't to many photographers there. Too many of them are just interested in pretty ¾ view shots in the sunshine!
