Doc Severinsen and the Tonight Show Band perform the song "Watch What Happens" on Carson's 17th anniversary special in 1979.

Pardon the slight desync of the audio/video. The master video of this doesn't have that defect.

10/23/08 - Thanks for 30,000 views. You guys are the greatest.

3/31/09 - Now over 45,000 views. This is definitely my most popular video.

8/25/2009 - 60,000 views.

10/20/2010 - Now 100,000 views.

  • I MISS the Tonite Show from this era.

The current tonite show is kinda poop.

  • When Carson says "The Greatest trumpeter in the world.." that is backup up by the University of Michigan Director of Bands. Doc played a concert on campus at UofM with their band. The UofM Diector said he was the best trumpeter he had ever heard. Never missed a note and could play any style. Doc is an was the greatest.

  • Al Hirt was the best.. doc is number 2 in my book ..this is just my opinion ty

  • @corey72723 Ha Ha!! Clearly you never met Revelli.

  • @DancingSpiderman You hit the nail on the head when you pegged this "Genre". Any other suggestions, besides the theme to the MDA Telethon?

  • @spartonboat1 Um... just because a college band director said he was the best, that doesn't mean he's the best.

  • @boompybo hardly a jazz standard huh? You smartass...do you even play jazz? Have a look at the real books...and watch what happens....cause it IS a jazz standard , Mr. Smartie Asset

  • @boompybo Ok mister smartass. I know it is from a movie. Do you play jazz? You sound very stupid. Get the real books and watch what happens HAHA...you're wrong . Hardly a jazz standard? That's because you're so smartass and talk without knowing

  • @DajaWaja You don't like it, that's fair. It's odd to call it a standard though. It's from Michel Legrand's movie soundtrack for Umbrellas of Cherbourg. Great classic film sure, but hardly a jazz standard.

  • The current Tonight Show band could play the good music. They have the ability but I don't know why they don't pick better songs and have better arrangements. I'll lay it all on Jay, it's "his" show now but I don't think he really cares about music. Leno and Letterman don't feature their bands for the broadcast audience. Why? Maybe they don't want their house bands to outshine the musical guests (which wouldn't take much - usually).

  • I sometimes enjoy having this style of music playing in the background; I refer to it as Muscular Dystrophy Muzak. Used to be played alla time, back in the era of when Jerry Lewis used to host the Telethon.

OH NOOO... WAIT... I feel a loss of mosso-control.... this muzak is affecting me....
