When the City of New York announced it was going to chase the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund Cleanup of the Gowanus Canal out of town on behalf of real estate interests, neighbors of the canal went up in arms. Follow the battle through a Community Board 6 meeting, a Gowanus block party, and the Bio Bus

  • @krisannesh20 It's been designated as a superfund, and will receive funding from the feds, but thats it. No work has gone underway yet?

  • I used to live at the Bridge on the Gowanus - I watched a terrified dog who seemed to have been dumped on the lower wharf area - die as he attempted to swim across the canal - he went under and that was the end -I see this is 2009 - I left in 1989 - what is the status now in 2011?

  • The Gowanus water tested was PH6 - that is acidic. Many biological processes, such as reproduction, cannot function in acidic waters. Gowanus is not conducive to life.
