Part 2/2. The Nene Valley Railway 'Autumn Steam Gala' with the theme East Meets West. Held over the weekend of the 10th and 11th September, this video show's some of the action including passenger, freight and TPO workings on the 10th September 2011. Filmed from locations such as Longueville Junction, Castor Lane Crossing, Mill Lane Bridge, Splash Dyke and near Lynches Bridge.

Featured locomotives included visiting BR Standard Class 8 No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' (visiting from the East Lancashire Railway) and GWR Hall Class No. 4936 'Kinlet Hall' (visiting from Tyseley Locomotive Works). From the home fleet, BR Standard Class 5 No. 73050 'City of Peterborough', LMS 4F Class No. 44422 and J94 'Austerity' British Steel No. 22 (not included in this video).

In order of appearance, No. 4936 is seen heading into Orton Mere Station on the first passenger working of the day, and then seen leaving the station and heading past Longueville Junction heading towards Peterborough Nene Valley Station. We then see No. 4936 attacking the gradient outside of Peterborough Nene Valley Station on the return journey back to Wansford. Next we move to Castor Lane Crossing where No. 73050 'City of Peterborough' is seen heading towards Peterborough Nene Valley on a TPO working, and then followed by No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' on a passenger working also working in the same direction. The next two shots are taken in the field where we see No. 73050 return on the TPO, slowing for a signal before continuing on towards Wansford. No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' is then seen passing with the return passenger service bound for Wansford Station. The next couple of shots are then taken from Splash Dyke, where we firstly see No. 4936 'Kinlet Hall' heading towards Peterborough Nene Valley with a passenger train working. No. 44422 is then seen heading in the opposite direction with a freight train. At Mill Lane Bridge, No. 4936 'Kinlet Hall' is seen on the 1 in 270 gradient with the return passenger working, followed by the highlight of the day, No 73050 'City of Peterborough' (leading) and No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' double heading a passenger working towards Peterborough Nene Valley Station. Moving near Lynches Bridge, No. 4936 'Kinlet Hall' is seen with a TPO working heading towards Peterborough Nene Valley, No. 73050 'City of Peterborough' and No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' bunker first with the returning double header service for Wansford and No. 4936 'Kinlet Hall' is seen on the returning TPO working. Lastly, No. 44422 is seen near Mill Lane Bridge with a passenger working bound for Peterborough Nene Valley.

The highlight of the day was No. 73050 'City of Peterborough' and No. 71000 'Duke of Gloucester' double heading a passenger train working. This was the first time that the pair had met and double headed since the locomotives were seen together at the 'International Railway Congress, Willesden, London' between the 26th and 29th May 1954.

  • @34027 Cheers Jason. Yeah, that wind was a real problem! Can put up with a bit of rain.

  • nicely done Hayden liked 4936 on castor bank, i see you had problems with the strong winds like me it was worst than the rain. anyway liked

  • @cmeonthemove Cheers. It was great to see the two standards working along the line. The windy conditions were a problem - but it can't be perfect conditions every time!

  • Another superb collections. I liked the double headers. You did well considering the blustery conditions.
