As many people know, hemophilia is a disorder that disrupts the body's ability to control bleeding. However, did you know that 30% of those with the condition develop it spontaneously, usually after a serious injury? These and other important facts about hemophilia are discussed in the Health Matters at Work® interview with Angelina Wang, Director of Research Medical Information at the National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF). Our host Jerry Franz talked with Angelina to shed more light on this disorder that affects 17,000 people in the United States and 450,000 worldwide. NHF advocates for hemophilia awareness and also helps bring more doctors into the field of hematology in order to move towards better treatments and hopefully a cure. With two-thirds of those with hemophilia suffering from severe cases, the work NHF does is as critical as ever. Watch the podcast below to learn more about this disorder and how you can help. About National Hemophilia Foundation The National Hemophilia Foundation (NHF) is dedicated to finding better treatments and cures for bleeding and clotting disorders and to preventing the complications of these disorders through education, advocacy and research. Established in 1948, NHF has chapters throughout the country. Its programs and initiatives are made possible through the generosity of individuals, corporations and foundations, as well as through a cooperative agreement with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
