Prinses Maxima praat vrijuit

Ruim 9 maanden lang volgde documentairemaker Etienne Glebbeek prinses Maxima in binnen- en buitenland. Niet alleen mocht hij haar tijdens haar werkzaamheden filmen maar ook tijdens privé momenten op Villa Eikenhorst. Het resultaat is de NOS-documentaire: Maxima, een portret van een prinses.
Prinses Máxima vertelt in de documentaire dat ze geniet van de verscheidenheid aan taken waarmee ze zich bezighoudt. "Ik sta niet stil bij de beperkingen, maar bij de mogelijkheden. En dat is heel veel."

De toespraak over de Nederlandse identiteit in 2007 deed veel stof opwaaien. Hieruit heeft ze een belangrijke les geleerd, zegt ze in het interview. Het was juist haar intentie Nederland een compliment te maken door de diversiteit in de Nederlandse cultuur te benadrukken. Als ze had geweten hoe haar toespraak ontvangen zou worden, zou ze het anders gezegd hebben.

Prinses Máxima wordt dinsdag 17 mei 40 jaar.

maxima (interrupts): no, not at all, not at all, because than i wouldn't

Interviewer (interrupts): because you can say them right now

Maxima laughs: I feel completely free to say uhm, but in the end, if I want to make a compliment, and -again- it doesn't come across as ne, than I must do it another way next time. That was my biggest lesson learnt, after the whole discussion of 'identity'.

Maxima: ..I never said that the Dutch identity doesn't exist, but that ín that idendity there is a lot of diversity. If I visit Limburg on queens day, they will there say you are in Limburg and you will nowhere find such a tard like this. We are Burgundian. But when I cisit Friesland, I will get a comparable story. That's what I like, I feel free to find even myself as a Dutch person. And that we can all identify with Holland.

Maxima: 'The Dutch identity, no, I haven't found that .

Interviewer: everything you say, and here I refer to, I mean it has been a while ago, but when you euh, when you said 'the dutchmen doesn't exist.' Every word you say, everything you say, can at the same time be used against you. What is your opinion of that?'

Maxima: It was a very educational moment, I must say. Of course it scared me a bit, the commotion... Truth is, I only wanted to compliment the Dutch.

Extraordinary was that filming was also allowed in Villa Eikenhorst., causing a unique view of her private life. Princess Maxima also talks about the speech she helt about the Dutch identity, which caused a lot of commotion at the time
