Antoon Vandeborght is one of Belgiums leading young guitarists. He won prizes in several international competitions and is an exciting performer both solo and in chamber music. Audiences and juries all around the world have much valued his interpretive qualities, his sensibility and control and most of all his capacity to transmit his music to the public!
Antoon Vandeborght was born on April 20, 1979 in Tienen (Belgium) and started playing the guitar at the age of 10. Under the guidance of Geert Claessens he graduated with 98% of the points at the Music Academy of his native town. Later he went to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels with Albert Sundermann and at the Lemmensinstituut (Leuven) with Roland Broux and Raphaella Smits. Already in 2000 he took his guitar diploma with the highest distinction and he continued a post-graduate course with Zoran Dukic at the Royal Conservatory of Den Haag (Netherlands). During his studies his musical development was also marked by the contacts with David Russell and Carlo Marchione and the participation in master classes with Leo Brouwer, Hopkinson Smith, Alex Garrobe, Alberto Ponce, Manuel Barrueco, Carlo Domeniconi,

He was invited to play concerts and to give master classes in Belgium, France, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Spain, Slovenia and Mexico.
Besides his soloist ambitions Antoon Vandeborght values chamber music a lot. Since 2001 he has been a founding member of the Koa Guitar Quartet. With this ensemble he took in 2002 the final diploma for chamber music with the highest distinction at the Lemmensinstituut. In 2003 Koa was awarded the second prize at the chamber music competition of the Rotary in Gent. They were also selected by Jong Talent, an organisation of the Flemish government. His love for performing extends to sharing the knowledge of music making with others. Since 2001 Antoon Vandeborght teaches guitar and chamber music at the Music Conservatory of Leuven and at the Music Academy of Tienen.

But it was not I that played that beautiful sonate from Scarlatti.
