This clip was played on the afternoon of November 22, 1963, which was the day of the assassination of President Kennedy. This was obviously played as a retrospective on the President's ill-fated trip to Texas following the news of his death an hour or two before. This clip starts off with Bill Ryan as the commentator in the studio, who then passed the baton (or whatever you call it) to another in studio commentator Frank McGee. The first part of the newsclip has the President and Mrs. Kennedy getting off the plane in Houston on November 21, 1963. Then it shows the ride to Houston in the downtown area. The next scene shows the President going into the Rice Hotel in Houston- where he stayed for a few hours. Next the scene was at the Sam Houston Coliseum on the evening of November 21, 1963 for the Albert Thomas testimonial dinner. The first one to talk at the testimonial dinner was Vice President Lyndon Johnson, who has some flattering words to say about Albert Thomas. Then President Kennedy takes the podium and has some more comments about Congressman Thomas, and his commitment to Houston and the Space program.
This was in the Rice Hotel. Brother lives there now. Kennedy really saw into the future. Too bad he didn't see Dallas coming.....
