I accidently clicked on this while looking for something completely different. I love accidents like that. How long before I would have heard it otherwise, if ever?

How lucky you are to have heard Richter live. Playing this sonata now, and it's not as easy as it sounds. Very difficult to find the right sound.

I'm used to Alfred Brendel's version, which I love, but this is certainly a very good interpretation as well.

@saunsnaen ..Many thanks for your post. I found your contribution most interesting, tinged with not a little envy one has to say! I have always admired this giant of the keyboard; his honesty and his artistic integrity. There certainly seemed to be a core of steel in his makeup, even though he often spoke of himself quite deprecatingly. Best wishes. My thanks, too, to the kind Uploader.

I heard Richter play twice, in Philly and in NY at Carnegie Hall. Through his cousin who lived in Connecticut I was Richter's guest at the NY concert. It was fun going back stage where there were a number of people with whom he chatted between bows. We spoke in German and he was very gracious.. His cousin wanted him to defect but he wouldn't because of his wife who was in Russia.

Es ist ein bisschen(!) schwer geben die Fühlung in diesem Teil ich glaub. Und Sie?

The great Sviatoslav had a special place in his heart for Schubert ..(and Haydn..)
I spin this CD at least a hundred times a year..

@beryllium2 More Schubert, less Beethoven, agreed?

This piece reminds of some kinda mixture of Beethoven and Mozart.

too bad Andrei Reiu and his Johann Strauss orchestra are advertising on a recording of a musician immeasurbly greater than Reiu. However, that's only a temporary intrusion, one which can't be more important than magnificence of this pianist and musician.

My gosh! All this analysis! I have perfect hearing form 250-8,000 Hz. (0 Decibels). Why must we be overly analytical? This is a TREMENDOUS performance. Period!

Wonderful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dear Viktor,What is your opinion of this performance and why? How do you rate it against his other performances of Schubert sonatas?

One of my favorites among Schubert sonatas...
the same goes to the performance. I've heard it several times live (played by Richter) and impression was even stronger. I wouldn't rate it against other performances - to each it's own ;)
