This nutty woman loses so much time micromanaging behavior! And why does everything have to be so "entertaining"? This is so over the top! The most annoying sound is when the kids are encouraged to howl: Wooooooo! I'm glad I'm old and escaped being subjected to this nonsense!

Awesome strategies! I will be using some of these! The students are so engaged!

The best way to engage all kids is to sing, dance. This is a bit much.

I would hate to act like everyone else.

@yuniquemusicschool its not being a parrot, i was dubious about the whole brain teaching methodology at first but having tried it in my classroom I am a convert. I work in one of the most deprived areas in the country, and the children I teach are very demanding both in terms of ability and behaviour. I have a whole range of abilities and behaviour in my class and whole brain teaching is a way to engage them all. If you ask the children they will tell you this method is fun and active.

Look how the students are completely engaged and involved in everything the teacher is saying and doing. They are 1st graders -- we all know how fidgety and distractable 6 and 7 year olds can be. But they also thrive on rhythmic chanting games (think Miss Mary Mack, which has been a staple for kids for years) I am pretty impressed by the attention she is commanding in a positive way. This is letting children learn rules and academics and allowing them to still be children.

Oh the many WAYS of teaching out there. This is the weirdest teaching method I have ever seen. I just pray that the principal at that lady's school will be so "open-minded" because obviously this teaching style does not fall under the typical teaching procedures. This must be a new trend or something.

Keep it up. Your students will excel in the future as they are doing now. You are creating discipline and new brain pathways for your students. I am sure your rigor and discipline is as great as your procedures.
Coupled with effective checking for understanding techniques, your approach benefits all your students.
Don't let the haters get you down.
The purpose of this video was to model rehearsing rules and procedures with beginning first graders in an unedited 10 minute video. It was not designed to demonstrate direct instruction or guided learning. When teaching, I believe we need to ask Higher Level Questions, and encourage critical and original thinking skills with our students. I am able to maximize learning time, and my students excel academically, because the procedures are in place.
