the Japanese version of Zanac was actually on the Famicom Disk System, in 1986. and, i think there was a semi-sequel to (or a spin-off from) Zanac, released on the NES three or so years later, called "Gun-Nac".

Yeah, I try to stick with the US release dates so that I can compare what was on the market at the same time. I definitely misspoke though saying that it was developed in 1988. I should have said released. Nice catch! As for Gun Nac, yeah it was definitely another Compile developed shooter that was excellent but it's hard for me to consider it a sequel... since it had carrots. Hehe. :)
