Point 1: Yes I am well aware Youtube is full of people who LOVE to criticize everything and anything about any horse video, but let me assure you our horses are comfortable and well cared for.
Point 2: I am a novice rider who only goes on hacks with a older much more experienced friend who tutors me, I can gallop at full speed on hacks and that's as far as my riding skills go. I took this video to see how my posture was in the saddle in rising trot and canter. I know full well now that I hold my reins far too high and I will correct this in practice.
Apart from that, I will gladly appreciate any well-worded and constructive pointers on my riding, but if anything is deliberately abusive, I will delete your comments.
Drifter is a 14.2 New Forrest cross, we think he has Freisian in him somewhere down the line, and he's a lovely safe boy.
This is the first time he's been ridden in his field, so he was a little over-excitable.
Constructive: Beautiful pony! When cantering in the open, try and let him go a bit, you look tense and if you relaxed, and made your contact on the reins springy, he would be a lot more comfortable. Get in your 2-point too- makes all the difference and takes the weight off his back (and makes it a lot more comfortable for YOU too!!!) other than that, have fun with your horse. Maybe try some bareback work to deepen your seat? Just a thought!
