On a walk on a Maine beach, our Aussie dog Rosie, saw a 4 x 8' sheet of 2" foam board floating near the shore and jumped on it. What was she thinking? Her jumping on, pushed the board out from the shore and the wind and tide quickly moved her out to sea! Rosie doesn't like swimming, so repeated calls to her to "come" had no effect. The winter (Dec. 19, 2009) air temperature was 20˚ and the sea water 40˚ so this was a life threatening situation. We called 911 and the Bristol Fire Department rescue squad quickly deployed an inflatable boat and saved our puppy! Thank you Fire Fighters!! Rosie was just fine.

  • why didnt you just swim out? doesn't look that far out plus you'd only be in the cold water for like 5 minutes

  • @GODLIKE20000

It was winter. The water temperature was 40 F and the air was 20 F.

In less than 5 minutes your muscles seize up and you drown.
